AGORA Crisis Center

"Sometimes it's hard to talk about our problems with family and friends. National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Albuquerque

organization of families, friends, and individuals whose lives have been affected by mental illness. Services include free mental health support, in-person/online support groups, classes, and education.

provides support, community, and connection to transgender, gender nonconforming, nonbinary, and gender variant people and their families through advocacy, education, and direct services.

UNM Health's Psychiatric Center

the state’s largest community mental health care provider. Relevant medical services offered by psychiatric center are listed below.


  • Comprehensive Community Support Services (CCSS): connects patients to various resources in the Albuquerque community to help them overcome mental illness, access benefits, and learn new skills. Services and referrals include psychiatric treatment, substance abuse treatment, medical care, and education and work resources. Call: (505) 272-1221

  • COPE Clinic: available for patients with chronic mental illness who require ongoing treatment and frequent follow-up. Services include therapy and medication management. Call: (505) 272-2800

  • Outpatient Psychotherapy Clinic: provides time-limited psychotherapies for patients who want to focus on recovering from the symptoms of a diagnosed mental health disorder. Offers evidence-informed treatment track that addresses trauma & PTSD specifically. Walk-in/call-in services only. Call for hours: (505) 272-2800

  • Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES): the only 24/7 psychiatric   emergency room in New Mexico. Psychiatrists provide emergency psychiatric interventions including medication therapies, safety interventions, and acute stabilization.

  • Short-Term Assessment for Recovery and Treatment (START) Clinic: provides psychiatric evaluations, psychotherapy, medication management, patient education, and supportive care for patients new to UNM Psychiatric Center. Call: (505) 272-2800

UNM Psychology Clinic

offers free or low-cost counseling and other mental health services to youth and adults in the community.

Albuquerque Center for Hope & Recovery

offers peer support for people who live with mental health or co-occurring mental health and substance use challenges. Services include support groups, weekly classes, legal aid, job development, and a milestone-based program to help individuals with various areas of life.

Icarus Recovery Center

detox, residential, and outpatient treatment for mental health and substance use disorders for all kinds. Specifically offers a trauma-informed approach to addiction treatment. Accepts most insurance.

Milagro Program - Overcome Addiction During Pregnancy

New Mexico’s first comprehensive prenatal care program for pregnant women with substance use disorders. Services include pre- and post-natal care, medical addiction therapy, counseling and case management support at UNM Family Medicine clinics.

Sage Neuroscience Center

comprehensive addictions treatment clinic. Services include an outpatient alcohol and opiate detox program, and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for individuals and their families dealing with substance use and addiction.

SMART Recovery Support Groups

offers 24/7 help for substance use and mental health conditions at UNM Health’s Psychiatric Center. Services include case management, medication assisted treatment, outpatient detox, primary care, psychotherapy, and special addiction treatment for individuals with PTSD/trauma.

Albuquerque VA Medical Center Suicide Prevention Coordinator

work with behavioral health providers and community organizations to assist Veterans who are managing emotional or mental health crises. Coordinators are available during regular business hours.

a leading institution for combat-related PTSD research. Offers extensive resources for veterans with PTSD, including therapist directories of providers that offer various kinds of PTSD assessment/treatment approaches.

Albuquerque Vet Center

offers confidential help for veterans, service members, and their families. Services include counseling for needs such as depression, PTSD, and the psychological effects of military sexual trauma (MST). Services are free for veterans with a DD214 with combat records. How are vet centers different from medical centers? - Vet Centers are small, non-medical, counseling centers conveniently located in your community.
